To paraphrase All Stewart, another train, another boarding pass... I got to the station early and put my bags in a locker with the intention of having a last stroll around Turku. Then it started raining so I sat in the waiting room instead.

And now I'm in my working compartment on the train, wondering if I will have to share it. I booked a compartment on the legs from Oulu to Tampere and Tampere to Turku - first leg, shared it with a pleasant chap. Got on the second train and, yes, we were sharing that compartment as well.

This obviously qualified us as friends as he was quite chatty after that and was asking me all sorts of questions about Australia - his daughter had worked there as an au pair for six months and I think he was fascinated. There are Aus wildlife shows and Border Whatsit on Finnish telly, and he asked if many people get snakes in their homes.

He's from Oulu and came to Turku to help his daughter move; as this train is headed there, I will be most amused if he turns up again.
