Somewhere else I was vaguely thinking of visiting while in Finland is the area of Lapland in which Rare Exports was filmed. This is Korvantunturi, which is on the border on Finland and Russia. It's the Russia bit that makes it problematic (as does the ability to actually get there - there are no roads, just tracks) as it requires visas to be anywhere near the border (from what I can gather).
Ivalo to the west is probably as close as you can get and there's a bus which runs from Rovaniemi a couple of times a week. There's also a bus which runs from Ivalo to Murmansk. Ivalo has an airport with a few flights a day, including Finnair from London. All other flights are to and from Helsinki.
The long distance rail network is quite extensive - https://www.vr.fi/cs/vr/en/long-distance_service_network - and given my love of trains, I'm very tempted to spend my initial 2 and a bit weeks riding the rails. I'll have to suss out how pricey it would be.
