Helsinki to St Petersburg  is 2 and a bit hours by train and costs around Euro 110 for the round trip. The downside is you need a visa to pass into Russia - not really a problem, however, according to the consulate website, you have to send them your passport when you apply. I'm really not happy doing this so I think I'll give Russia a miss this time.
